PRE-WORK

The pre work started which selection of the the festival and we have to select one of the festival that had to reflect our culture, and we have to select a culture from our particular area, in India from where we belong too. We had start by creating a mindmap, and start talking to our elders around and start collecting the primary information about that festival to know everything about the festival that how it started, meaning of it, it's rituals, the no. of days it's celebrated and everything else that was related to that festival.

So starting with the festival that I chose was sama-chakwa, it is celebrated usually Mithila (Bihar) area, it is a continuous series of a festivities that happens in this festival it continues after Diwali followed by chat pooja and then lastly the main day of celebrating Sama chakwa, coming onto my experience was working on the subject was, firstly I chose this festival because this festival is not as well known as the other festival celebrated in the area and I wanted to work on this and research about the festival that not many people know about, in between the process of making this research paper on the festival and its festivities I started the research by talking to my mum about it so that I can know to close details of the festivities that happens during the celebration, and also went through some research paper that we available on the internet to exactly know how it started and goes by, and in the process i got to know about this festival closely, since before the project began i had no idea what exactly was the history of this festival and the mythological background of it, where are you also came to know that many of the elderly people around me also they knew what we exactly the festival is being celebrated they were doing it because of the ancestor practice they had in their life without knowing the exact background of the festival in detail, which bring to the point that I learnt to question my surrounding and ask the question why and how things happen since it so much important to know about my own culture I got to know so many new things during the process, and the irony of the process was between asking questions to my elderly people I got to know since they were not aware about the exact history of the festival and I told them about my research instead. Further mentioning the material and non material aspects, where material culture refers to the objects or belongings of a group of people. Nonmaterial culture, in contrast, consists of the ideas, attitudes, and beliefs of a society. Material and nonmaterial aspects of culture are linked, and physical objects often symbolize cultural ideas of the people, with that I started with the categorization of material and non material aspect of the culture,

  • the talking about the functional object home task, we had to find a functional object from our surroundings & daily life that we use and the function object that I choose was a coffee mug father I interviewed one of my friend, and while I was preparing the questions for the interview I categories material and non material aspects of the coffee mug and and try to cover both emotion and physical value of coffee mask for that person, I actually realized a few things that, even if we had the same object of the coffee mug and we were talking about the same things we had different uses of the coffee mug in our own personal life and we both had different ways and emotions about the particular object that particular coffee mag my be the same but being different persons we had different emotions and values attached to our personal mug, we had different leaves ,we had different attachment, we had our own different stories about it and we used the mug differently in our daily lives, even the choices we had in a coffee mugs like its likes and dislikes about the color , the print of the kind of material ,that we prefer.

  • With the brief given of 5W1H, stands for 5Ws stand for What, Why, When, Where, and Who. 1H (or 2H) stands for How (and How much), so with that understanding we have to move forward with our final task off the research and keep this 5W1H as our base for the information collection and moving forward with the research work, The topic our team chose was the tribe of Tibetans in which my personal topic was for the exercise actions of body of the Tibetan people, at the time of the research work I realize Tibetan culture had already been studied and since many of the reports are been made already about the Tibetan culture it was comparatively easier for me to do the research work, at the same time since a topic were segregated within the team, it was a little difficult for me to categories it further in material in non materialistic aspect and gather the information and sort that out.

LEARNING :

 • I learnt how to use the primary source of information as my source of research so that I can properly brainstorm my available points and learnt to sort that out and use it in the best possible way.

 • I learnt how to look into every aspect of the available information and break that down to understand it better.

 • most important learning was that I learnt how to use 5W1H , in my research work and keep it as a my base of information in order to bring out the best possible work ahead.

 • Lastly with every different group assignment i always learn to be more and more comfortable around new group of people and work according to everyone's way of working.
