F2F: Learner's Journey Log

  • Simple Forms

We were given a brief about form and shapes, we were asked to create four different forms with four different shapes, also for that we were allowed to used any of the material of our choice, such as bamboo sticks, tooth picks, ear buds etc. With that I started my task with the bamboo sticks which I pasted with paper tape, which eventually got stuck but I wasn't the result that I wanted, it wasn't that visually appealing for my expectations, since it wasn't as clean as it wanted it to be, though it was my first M2M project that I was working on, where we were also taught to use the different materials like fevi bond, fevi stick etc. and taught how to hold things together using all of those, where I took my teachers help with that since I wasn't clear how to really use it to stick it on the edges, after the use of Fevi bond it is left to dry I so that the ages can stick together properly and tightly.

  • Subtraction

First we were taught to create mold to pore POP, where in as as M2M we were taught to make model from sun board and different materials, similarly here we had to create different types of molds and pore POP in it where we had to make sure the doesn't leak and sealed properly, After we than taught how to make the basic form, than we had to do subtraction, in which we were taught how to do face subtraction, edge subtraction, corner subtraction etc. So while creating the mold i explored how to attain cleaner and shaper edge in your form and for that you have to minutely cut the edges.

  • Additional

Talking about tha Addition part, we were taught how to add elements in your exist basic shape, where in I realized as similar to subtraction, addition also needed careful handling and properly done fold to attain the acquired form.

Now after I have learnt both subtraction and addition, by using the learnings of both we had to create a form which covers all 3 dimensions (X,Y & Z axis), and since this was a group task we were working in pairs, we decided we'll attach A with , making a mold wasn't a difficult task for me, since I had performed addition and subtraction task which the only thing needed though out the task. Wherein poring POP was a little difficult for me initially but got figured after a few trials, as at the first try it did not dried properly since I added more water than ad required, whereas in the second trial while the correction of pop I finally completed my task.

The next brief was about platonic and alchemies solids, about the platonic solid there are basic shapes (Triangle, square, Pentagon), it's about joining the same shapes of same size to create a form, so there are 5 platonic solids ,Tetrahedron which is created by triangle, Cube which is created with square, Octahedron which is again created with triangles, Dodecahedron which is created with pentagons, Icosahedron which are created by triangles.

Archimedes solid, as platonic solid this allows more than one kind of regular polygon to be used for the faces. The truncated cube is created by taking a cube (which is a Platonic solid) and literally cutting off the corners to create eight equilateral triangles. In that we were told to create it with paper. The shape I chose was snub dodecahedron since it was a little complicated and a little hard to achieve I wanted to challenge myself with that, firstly I cut out a Pentagon and triangle of same size sides and than mapped out the shape on paper which were later marked, folded and finally pasted.

In Final outcome, we were told to create a new form and were free to choose any medium or our choice, so I created a piece of shape and with repetition of the same shape I created a form.
