M2M: Learner's Journey Log

On the topic TRANSFORM, we got the lecture on the first day on types of paper like butter paper, crape paper, handmade paper, tissue, newspaper, OHP sheet and many more, before that I had used paper all my life but I had never explored these many kinds of paper before, I got to know the texture, smell, sound of paper ad every paper of has its own qualities.

  • In the first day task, we had to make different strokes and cuts of the paper with the use of different tools like thermocautery, paper cutter, etc., we had to try different angles and types of horizontal and vertical cuts on the paper and had to explore both the tools and types of paper and note the difference in each of them so that we could experience the difference and qualities of a different kind of material and tools used on it, in this I got to know about my comfort with different tools and which of them felt an ease with my hand, for example, I had most ease with paper cutter as it had my grip and smooth direction to easily work with material and cut as per my flow of hand. I learned the types of cuts full, half, etc. paper cuts to achieve cleaner cuts and get proper edges.

  • since there were no complicated patterns to be made, I only had to use the tool in one straight direction it was easier for me to cut the pattern

  • since there was a curvy pattern it was difficult for me in the binging to attain the pattern but I had to practice it a few times roughly so that I could get a hang of it

  • the most important learning from this particular activity was how to give direction to your tool while cutting and while creating a pattern

  • I learnt the types of cuts full, half etc. paper cuts so as to achieve cleaner cuts and get proper edges, while making paper folds we use half cuts to get Sharpe edges.

We were taught to create different types of texture by burning the paper, but different types burning methods we got different types textures and different types of effects and patterns on the paper, we were also told to spin, squeeze, roll types of paper, on day 5 we were told too much about all the tricks and patterns that we have learned over time we had to create shapes and patterns and create solids with different twist n turns that we had learned in the past days and makes all the techniques and create something new.

THE FINAL OUTCOME we had to create a cube, in with which we had to use all the techniques that we have learnt & adding those techniques with aesthetics, each side of the 6 faces of the cube was to be made with using technique such as kerygma, paper rolling in which use of OHP sheet, sun board etc. was used to made the other faces of cube.

Learning:

 • Learnt how to observe different textures and uses of types of paper

 • Did new explorations and learnt the properties of those paper.

 • Different paper cutting technique bought different challenges to work with, I learnt how to find a solution to understand the problem and fix it.

 • Learnt how to properly map put the design on paper without wasting the extra sheet

• Learnt how to use different kind of tools with different paper
